We answer your Frequently Asked Questions below

1.    What type of Hair does Masodi cater for?

Masodi Hair Care products are thoughtfully formulated to cater for all hair types. From Curly Hair, straight hair, Kinky hair, Wavy hair and Relaxed hair. While this is the case, there are some of the products within the range that are specifically made to cater for each of the hair types, for example, Shea Butter Hairfood is formulated specifically for Curly, Kinky and Relaxed Hair while the Activated Charcoal Shampoo, Deep Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner and other products are formulated  to cater for all the hair care types. There’s a product for everyone.

2. Are your products free from parabens and sulfates?

Yes, our products are free from Parabens and Sulfates. Sulfates are chemicals used as cleansing agents. When used in shampoos; they are primarily designed to dissolve dirt. Their abrasive nature can lead to the erosion of the hair and scalp’s natural oils, leaving the hair dry, the scalp irritated and with potential hair loss. Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used as preservatives for cosmetic products. Over the years, their safety for personal care use has been under huge scrutiny, as they have been linked to a variety of health issues.

3. Are these products friendly for kids and people with sensitive scalps?

Yes. We have coined the term thoughtfully formulated for our products to communicate the amount of care that has gone into the ingredients of the products. Throughout the process, we kept children and people with sensitivities in mind. Our products also contain key ingredients from nature to further leverage nature’s offering and delicacy to deliver effective hair care. The key objective is not only to provide products that can lead to beautiful hair, but also products that focus on restoring, replenishing and protecting the hair, scalp and hairline. Disclaimer: If you do feel any sensitivities with any of our products, you are encouraged to discontinue use and consult a medical practitioner for safety purposes.

4. I’ve decided to start a healthy hair care journey. What are the basic products you can recommend for me?

Wash and Moisture products. Invest in a good sulfate and parabens free wash-day products. These are:

-       Activated Charcoal Shampoo – a clarifying shampoo for your hair and scalp

-       Almond Oil Deep Conditioner – for intense moisture from deep within

-       Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioner – a daily hair cream for hydration and softness

-       All-In-One Hair Oil – an oil for shine and sealing in moisture and

This is a good starter pack for any hair texture or type, with the important thing to note being following the right regime and techniques for washing and styling your hair. Use the products in that order, with the oil being the last step to ensure that moisture is properly sealed into the hair.

5. What can I use for my hairline loss?

Here are few things to ensure your hairline is healthy and protected

-  Massage your hairline with hair growth stimulating oils such as the Masodi All-In-One Hair Oil which contains castor oil, moringa oil and avocado oil which are all hair growth stimulating oils

- When braiding your hair, don’t pull it too hard. Be soft and gentle.

- Use a satin or silk head wrap or pillowcase when sleeping to avoid friction with your hair and hairline

6. I’m experiencing dry, itchy and dandruff ridden scalp. What can Masodi offer?

Masodi Anti-Itch Hair & Scalp Mist. It contains Tea Tree Oil and Menthol, and fights dandruff and itch for a soothed, and hydrated scalp. Suitable for both braids and un-braided hair as a hydrant for both scalp and hair.

7. Do you have a moisture treatment for dry, brittle hair?

Yes we do. Our Almond Oil Deep Conditioner is a Moisture Treatment Mask. It is formulated to infuse intense moisture deep into the hair shaft to soften and moisturize dry, brittle hair.

For dry and tangled hair, it’s also best to pre-poo your hair with coconut oil the night before, then wash your hair with warm water and sulfate-free shampoo. Warm water opens your hair follicle for hydration and nutrients to enter, while Paraben & sulfate free shampoo is delicate on your hair and scalp and cleanses them without excessively drying them. Then apply the Almond Oil Deep Conditioning Mask.

8. What can I use to stimulate hair growth?

Keep your scalp clean and healthy by washing your hair at least once weekly (or more frequently depending on your hair texture). Then massage your scalp with All-In-One Hair Oil at least once a week to using your fingers or a hair massaging tool. This promotes blood circulation for your scalp and helps stimulate hair growth.

Trim your hair regularly (every 6-8 weeks). The frizzy, dry, coarse ends at the very bottom of your hair is the unhealthy hair that needs to go. You can softly twist your hair to expose them better and snip those off, leaving behind only neat ends.

9. What does Protein Treatment do and how should I use it?

Protein treatment is helpful for hair that is damaged, weak, thin, too elastic (when you pull a single hair strand apart and it stretches a little too much before it snaps/breaks), and dull-looking hair. It repairs damaged hair, can enhance hair volume/thickness, strengthens the hair and leads to overall improvement in hair health.

Use it once every 6-8 weeks depending on your hair needs. Wash your hair with shampoo, then pat dry with a towel until hair is damp. Apply Protein treatment to your hair and cover with a heat cap or shower cap for 15-20 mins. Rinse off and Pat dry. If you have naturally dry and brittle hair, it is normal for protein treatment to lead to some dryness, so please follow on your protein treatment with a deep conditioning straight after (or ignore this step if your hair is not too dry and brittle), and then continue moisturize hair with leave-in conditioner, an oil of choice and to style as desired.

10. Can I use Masodi products for relaxed hair?

Yes, Masodi products are great for relaxed hair. Relaxers straighten the hair but weaken the hair shaft. What this means is that nutritional products that contain powerful nourishing ingredients are necessary for healthy, relaxed hair, which makes Masodi’s thoughtfully formulated hair care range even that much more necessary to use on relaxed hair. All the products in our range can be used for relaxed hair to infuse nutrition and moisture that might have been lost during the process of chemically straightening hair. The Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioner is a more nutritional alternative to a typical hair moisturizer, with hydrating and softening properties. The Shea Butter Hairfood helps in styling and shaping the hair while adding shine and locking in moisture. The hair oils serve a dual purpose of repairing the hair as well as increasing resistance from breakage.

11. Are your products suitable for low or high porosity hair?

Our products are suitable for all types of hair porosity, and here’s why: hair porosity speaks to how easily products and/or moisture is absorbed into or lost out of the hair strands. What is more important to note in this regard is the routine and/or process followed for looking after your hair, in conjunction with careful product choices.

Low porosity hair has a tightly bound cuticle layer, making it difficult for moisture to penetrate (but also difficult for moisture to escape, once it’s in your hair). What is usually important is the use of indirect heat on the hair during deep conditioning and/or protein treatments to help open up the hair cuticle to allow products and nutrients to be absorbed into the hair shaft. So use a heat cap or shower cap in conjunction with an overhead heat dryer during your deep conditioning and protein treatments. A hot oil treatment using Masodi Coconut and All in one oil is also a great option. Hot Oil Treatment is simply putting oil all over the hair then incorporating heat. This allows the oil to penetrate the hair shaft for intense hydration that your low porosity hair may need.

Then follow on with this combo of 3 daily care products: Leave in conditioner, All in one oil for hair and Shea butter hairfood. These are suitable for daily use for your LOC or LCO method for daily hydration, moisture infusion and sealing in for moisture retention.

High porosity hair, on the other hand, has gaps and holes in the cuticle, allowing moisture to easily pass in and out. While hot oil treatment is popularly used for low porosity hair, it is also important to incorporate into high porosity hair regimes for maximum moisture and nutritional absorption.

Then follow on with this combo of 3 daily care products: Leave in conditioner, All in one oil for hair and Shea butter hairfood. These are suitable for daily use for your LOC or LCO method for daily hydration, moisture infusion and sealing in for moisture retention.

12. What products can I use for hair that has been colored?

Colour doesn't change the texture of the hair, but bleach definitely does. The reason for that is because bleach is removing the melanin in your hair that’s protecting it. The lighter the hair is, the more exposed the hair will be, which makes the hair on the dryer side”, Elena. (Janell Hickman November 27, 2019).

Conditioning the hair is top priority. Ensure you use Deep Conditioner on your wash days to avoid extreme dryness and brittleness of hair. Also use a leave-in conditioner to add a topical moisture and hydration to the hair.  Avoid washing your hair every day which could lead to fading out the colour, but which could also contribute to stripping hair off its natural much needed oils after coloring. Use moisture sealants such as Hair Oil and/or Shea Butter hairfood to ensure the hydration you put into the hair is locked in throughout the day.

13. How is Masodi Organics making an effort to preserve the environment?

All Masodi products are free from Mineral Oils, including palm oil which has endured overexploitation especially in West Africa. Our ingredient choices are where we chose to start. Part of our journey to being a green brand is also looking into sustainable options for recycling our packaging as well as using plastic free packaging in future.

1. Are your Skin Care products suitable for Kids too?

Yes they are. All our products are free from Sulfates, Parabens and Mineral Oils. They were formulated thoughtfully and with care in order to deliver effective nourishment to the skin in a delicate way so they can be enjoyed by everyone, including kiddies.

2. How do I know which Body Lotion Option to choose from your range?

For Super Dry skin that loses moisture easily after applying lotion:
Choose Whipped Shea Butter. It seals and locks moisture like no other and adds a deeply nourishing effect to the skin because it's an emollient. You can also choose it even without dry skin if you prefer a naturally glowing skin. It has a greasy feel when you touch it but absorbs incredibly fast and well into the skin.

For Dry to Moderate skin that needs deep moisture through the day:
Choose Double Body Butter. It's a deeply nourishing Body Butter deriving nourishment from Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter. It is also suitable to use even for people without dry skin who prefer a thick and rich butter that deeply moisturises skin, especially on cold or dry days.

For moderate to Oily skin that retains moisture well:
choose Lightweight Body Moisturizer. It moisturises and hydrates skin well, while keeping a lightweight feeling. It is also a great option for people who experience heavier sweat through the day.

3. Is your Body Wash Sulfate Free?

Yes. Our Body Wash is sulfate-free and contains Aloe Vera Gel for its nourishing properties. Is cleanses the skin gently without drying it or causing irritations.

4. Is your Whipped Shea Butter Natural?

Yes, it is 99% Natural. It is basically Shea Butter, whipped up with natural oils and a tinge of fragrance for a delightful scent. It is a dual use product for both skin and hair. Because it is natural, it needs to be kept out of direct sunlight and stored in cool places. If exposed to the sun, or heat, it melts and then solidifies again when it cools down but will turn yellow-like in color. In this state, it is still fit for use but just not as pleasing to the eye. So please keep it out of the sun or heat.

5. Is your Coconut Oil Pure or is it mixed with other oils?

Our Coconut Oil is 100% Pure. It is deodorized (meaning it does not have the coconut smell) to accommodate people who do not prefer the coconut smell. Because it is pure, it  it melts on warm days and solidifies again on cooler days. This does not affect its quality, it is normal for pure coconut oil.

6. What are the benefits of using your Bath Salts?

Our bath salts are a blend of Himalayan and Epsom Salts with hibiscus Flower and Lavender. They offer the following benefits:

- Relieving of pain and swelling
- Improve blood circulation
- Clean and pamper your feet
- Reduce cramps
